Kalmail Privacy Policy

Kalmail is an email client for Android developed and published by Beshev Games.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Kalmail accesses, how that information is used, when information may be shared with third-party service providers, and the choices available to you.

By using Kalmail, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information Kalmail Accesses

Kalmail requires access to information associated with email accounts that you choose to connect to the application.

Depending on the email provider and features you use, this may include:

  • your email address and account display name;
  • OAuth access and refresh tokens;
  • email folders, labels and mailbox information;
  • message sender and recipient information;
  • email subject lines;
  • message headers and metadata;
  • email message bodies;
  • read/unread, starred, flagged and similar message states;
  • attachments;
  • drafts and sent messages;
  • information necessary to synchronize and manage your mailbox.

Kalmail only accesses an email account after you choose to add that account.

2. OAuth Accounts

For supported providers such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL, Kalmail uses OAuth authentication where available.

When OAuth is used, authentication takes place through the email provider’s authorization system. Kalmail does not receive or store your email-provider password.

Instead, the provider supplies Kalmail with authorization tokens that allow the application to perform the email functions you have approved.

These tokens are used solely to maintain the connection between Kalmail and your email provider.

You may revoke Kalmail’s access through Kalmail or through your email provider’s account/security controls where supported.

3. Manually Configured Email Accounts

Kalmail may also allow you to connect email services using standard technologies such as IMAP and SMTP.

For accounts that do not provide OAuth authentication, you may need to supply:

  • your email address;
  • username;
  • password or application-specific password;
  • incoming and outgoing mail server settings.

This information is used only as necessary to connect Kalmail to the email service you selected.

Authentication information required to maintain these connections is stored locally by Kalmail using Android application storage and platform security mechanisms.

Kalmail does not sell email-account credentials or use them for advertising or profiling.

4. How Email Data Is Used

Kalmail processes email data solely to provide email-client functionality requested by you.

This includes functions such as:

  • synchronizing mailboxes;
  • displaying messages;
  • displaying folders and labels;
  • searching email;
  • composing messages;
  • sending email;
  • replying and replying to all;
  • forwarding email;
  • downloading or opening attachments;
  • saving drafts;
  • marking messages read or unread;
  • starring or flagging messages;
  • archiving messages;
  • moving messages between folders;
  • deleting messages;
  • managing spam or junk mail;
  • displaying email notifications.

Kalmail does not use the content of your emails to create advertising profiles or marketing profiles.

5. Local Storage and Caching

Kalmail may store or cache email information locally on your device to provide features such as:

  • faster mailbox loading;
  • offline or limited-connectivity access;
  • message synchronization;
  • draft handling;
  • attachment handling;
  • maintaining mailbox state.

Cached information may include message headers, message bodies, mailbox information and other information necessary for normal email-client functionality.

Locally stored Kalmail data is kept within application-controlled storage except where you intentionally export, download or share information outside the application.

6. Yahoo and AOL Mail Data

When you connect a Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail account, Kalmail accesses that account only after you explicitly authorize the application through Yahoo’s OAuth authorization process.

Yahoo/AOL Mail information is used only to provide user-facing email functionality.

This may include reading and synchronizing messages, displaying mailboxes, composing and sending mail, replying, forwarding, searching, managing folders, changing message state, archiving, moving and deleting messages.

Kalmail does not use Yahoo or AOL Mail data to:

  • create advertising audiences;
  • target or personalize advertisements;
  • create user or behavioral profiles;
  • personalize unrelated content;
  • monetize user data;
  • perform email engagement tracking;
  • sell user information;
  • provide Yahoo Mail information to data brokers;
  • provide email content to advertising services.

Yahoo/AOL message contents, subjects, sender and recipient information, attachments and authentication tokens are not supplied to advertising services for advertising purposes.

Kalmail does not sell Yahoo/AOL Mail data.

Yahoo/AOL Mail data is not transferred to third parties except where necessary to provide functionality explicitly requested by the user, such as sending an email to its intended recipients, forwarding a message, or using a user-initiated sharing function.

7. Advertising

Kalmail may offer an advertising-supported version of the application.

Advertising is provided through Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads.

Depending on your region, consent choices and device configuration, Google’s advertising services may process information such as:

  • IP address;
  • device or advertising identifiers;
  • application interactions;
  • advertising interactions;
  • diagnostic information;
  • general device information.

Google states that its Mobile Ads SDK may automatically process IP addresses, user-product interactions, diagnostics and device/account identifiers for purposes including advertising, analytics and fraud prevention.

Email contents are not supplied to Google AdMob for advertising purposes.

Kalmail does not use:

  • email bodies;
  • email subjects;
  • senders;
  • recipients;
  • attachments;
  • mailbox contents;
  • OAuth credentials

to select, personalize or target advertisements.

Premium or otherwise ad-free users may not receive advertising requests where Kalmail’s Premium functionality disables advertising.

Where required by law, Kalmail uses consent controls to obtain and manage advertising and related privacy choices.

8. Analytics and Crash Reporting

Kalmail may use Google Firebase Analytics to understand general application usage and improve the application.

Kalmail may also use Firebase Crashlytics to identify crashes, errors and stability problems.

Crashlytics may process technical information including:

  • crash stack traces;
  • application version;
  • operating-system information;
  • device model and technical characteristics;
  • Firebase installation identifiers;
  • information concerning application state at the time of a crash.

Firebase documents these categories as part of Crashlytics’ crash-reporting functionality.

Kalmail does not intentionally submit email message bodies, email subjects, attachments, email-account passwords or OAuth authentication tokens to analytics or crash-reporting services.

Analytics and diagnostic information is used to maintain, troubleshoot and improve Kalmail.

9. Purchases

Kalmail may offer Premium features through Google Play.

Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing.

Beshev Games does not receive your full payment-card information. Google states that payment information used with Google Play’s billing system is stored with the user’s Google Account and is not shared with application developers.

Kalmail may receive information necessary to determine whether a Premium entitlement or purchase is valid.

10. Remote Email Content

Some email messages may contain remotely hosted images or other resources.

If remote content is loaded, your device may establish a connection directly with the server hosting that content. Depending on that server and network configuration, information such as your IP address and technical request information may become visible to the remote content provider.

Kalmail may restrict or avoid automatically loading untrusted remote content and may allow the user to choose when such content is loaded.

11. Notifications

If email notifications are enabled, information such as a sender name, email address, subject line or message preview may be displayed through Android’s notification system.

Whether this information appears on a device lock screen depends on your Android notification and lock-screen privacy settings.

You can change these settings through Kalmail and/or Android system settings.

12. Information Sharing

Beshev Games does not sell your email data.

Information may be processed by third parties only where necessary to provide a particular application function, including:

  • the email provider whose account you connect;
  • Google Firebase for analytics and crash reporting;
  • Google AdMob for advertising where advertising is enabled;
  • Google Play for purchases and entitlement processing.

Your email provider independently processes information according to its own privacy policy and terms.

Kalmail does not provide message content to third-party advertisers, analytics providers or data brokers for advertising, profiling or marketing purposes.

13. Data Security

Kalmail is designed to limit access to sensitive information to what is necessary to provide email functionality.

Connections to supported email services use encrypted network protocols such as TLS where supported and required by the configured provider.

OAuth providers use provider-issued authorization credentials rather than requiring Kalmail to receive the user’s account password.

Sensitive locally stored application information is kept in application-controlled storage and protected using available Android security mechanisms.

No electronic storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but reasonable technical measures are used to protect information handled by Kalmail.

14. Data Retention

Email data cached by Kalmail is retained locally for as long as necessary to provide the application’s email and synchronization functionality or until it is removed through application actions, account removal or application-data removal.

When an email account is removed from Kalmail, locally stored authentication information and locally maintained account data associated with that account are removed from Kalmail.

Removing an account from Kalmail does not delete the underlying email account or messages stored by the email provider.

Information processed by third-party services such as Firebase, Google Mobile Ads or Google Play may be retained according to those providers’ respective policies and configured retention periods.

15. Removing Your Data

Kalmail does not require you to create a separate Kalmail or Beshev Games cloud account.

You can stop Kalmail from accessing an email account by removing that account from the application.

You may also:

  • revoke OAuth access through your email provider;
  • clear Kalmail’s application data through Android settings;
  • uninstall Kalmail from your device.

Uninstalling Kalmail removes application-controlled local data according to Android’s application-storage behavior.

Data stored by your email provider remains subject to that provider’s own retention and deletion policies.

16. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, applicable privacy laws may provide rights regarding your personal data, including rights to:

  • request access;
  • request correction;
  • request deletion;
  • restrict certain processing;
  • object to certain processing;
  • request data portability;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • lodge a complaint with an applicable data-protection authority.

Because most email information accessed by Kalmail originates from your email provider and is stored either with that provider or locally on your device, some requests may need to be made directly to the relevant email provider.

17. European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland

Where applicable, personal data is processed in accordance with relevant privacy and data-protection requirements, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Depending on the processing activity, the legal basis may include:

  • providing functionality requested by you;
  • your consent;
  • legitimate interests in maintaining security, preventing abuse and improving application reliability;
  • compliance with legal obligations.

Where consent is required for advertising or related technologies, Kalmail provides applicable consent controls.

18. Children’s Privacy

Kalmail is not designed or directed specifically toward children.

Beshev Games does not knowingly use Kalmail to collect children’s email information for advertising or profiling purposes.

If you believe personal information relating to a child has been processed improperly, please contact Beshev Games.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Kalmail develops, new functionality is introduced, service providers change, or legal and platform requirements change.

The date at the top of this page will indicate when the policy was last updated.

Material changes may also be communicated through the application where appropriate.
